Program Content: The new Schedule UTP can provide a roadmap for IRS examiners and increases taxpayers’ risks of adjustments and even penalties. Taxpayers’ risks are increased even further by the recent case of Canal Corporation v. Commissioner and by codification of the economic substance doctrine. The program will review the requirements of the new schedule, explore strategies for reducing penalty risks, and examine when economic substance might apply and what the consequences might be.

Property Tax – Are You Ready for 2011?
Program Content: The 2010 property tax year has been a rollercoaster ride of assessment appeals benefitting taxpayers, but also leaving taxpayers feeling short changed. Some assessors understood that the fair market value of real and personal property in their markets may have declined, but others held fast that the economy did not affect market values and reductions in assessments were not warranted. Should the taxpayer look for relief in 2011 from these assessors? In general, what does 2011 have in store for property owners across the major markets?
