Raymond Montero is a Managing Director in True Partners Consulting’s Los Angeles office. Mr. Montero is a Certified Public Accountant and formed in January 2004 a Professional Corporation through which he provided corporate and international tax consulting. He has over 23 years of experience in corporate and international tax consulting, having practiced in the United States, the United Kingdom and Mexico. Mr. Montero has a variety of both publicly traded and privately held clients and his practice has focused on cross-border structuring, transfer pricing related matters, outbound international planning and consultation relating to foreign tax credit, CFC, PFIC, etc. related issues and accounting for income tax matters. His clients have ranged in size from $10 million to over $500 million in value.
For more than six (6) years Mr. Montero was a partner in KPMG’s International Corporate Services (ICS) practice based in Los Angeles. Raymond’s focus while at KPMG was on cross border Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), outbound and inbound international planning and cross-border structured finance. He served as the lead U.S. tax partner, or lead U.S. International partner for several of KPMG’s Americas Accounts. While at KPMG Mr. Montero advised on transactions ranging from $100 million to $3 billion in value. He also advised on major tax-efficient restructurings and financing structures for his clients. While at KPMG he served as the main ICS Partner link for the real estate practice, and one of three partners aligned with the financial services practice. Raymond spent a little over a year and a half in Mexico City with KPMG’s Mexican affiliate, Chevez Ruiz Zamarripa.
Prior to joining KPMG in 1996, he was a partner with Arthur Andersen in London. For various years Mr. Montero was the Partner in Charge of Andersen’s US Tax Practice based in London. In this capacity he participated and advised on many cross-border transactions, outbound and inbound, international planning and cross-border structured finance. While at Andersen, Mr. Montero was a member of the Firmwide Accounting for Income Taxes specialty team. In addition, he advised on transactions ranging from $100 million to over $1 billion.
Mr. Montero is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. While in the U.K. he was an Affiliate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He has chaired and been featured speaker at a number of seminars sponsored by various Conference organizers on such topics as The Tax Effective Management of an International Treasury, Tax Treaty Planning, Tax Strategies for US Investment, IRS Examinations of Non-US Multinationals, etc.
