For nearly 30 years, clients have sought out Mr. Montero for his technical acumen, creative mind, and extensive experience in corporate and international tax consulting. He has practiced in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Mexico, specializing both in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and international tax.
Mr. Montero, who joined True Partners Consulting in 2008, publishes and speaks widely on such topics as “The Tax- Effective Management of an International Treasury,” “Tax Treaty Planning,” “Tax Strategies for U.S. Investment,” and “IRS Examinations of Non-U.S. Multinationals.” He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Montero was a partner in KPMG’s International Corporate Services (ICS) practice, based in Los Angeles, for more than six years. He focused on cross -border M&A, outbound and inbound international planning, and cross-border structured finance. He served as the lead U.S. tax partner and lead U.S. international partner, for several of KPMG’s Americas Accounts, advising on transactions ranging from $100 million to $3 billion in value. He also advised his clients on major tax-efficient restructurings and financing structures. Additionally, Mr. Montero spent a little over a year and a half in Mexico City with KPMG’s Mexican affiliate, Chevez Ruiz Zamarripa.
Before joining KPMG in 1996, Mr. Montero was a partner with Arthur Andersen in London, serving as the Partner in Charge of Andersen’s U.S. tax practice. He advised clients on cross-border transactions, outbound and inbound, international planning, and cross-border structured finance. He also served on the Firmwide Accounting for Income Taxes specialty team. While in the U.K., he was an Affiliate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
