For more than 25 years, Robert M. Gordon has guided clients through the intricacies of tax law, making complicated issues clear and comprehensible. His probing mind, listening ear, technical skill, and creative ingenuity consistently lead to practical, effective, tax-saving solutions.

Mr. Gordon specializes in complex domestic and international transactions, including M&A, joint ventures, legal entity rationalization, transaction reviews, uncertain tax positions, accounting methods, and general federal tax planning. He also provides expert witness testimony in lawsuits that have tax implications.

Before joining True Partners, he was Assistant General Counsel and Head of Tax for BP America’s U.S.-based manufacturing and retail division. This position culminated 20 years of progressively responsible roles at BP and its forerunner, Amoco Corporation.

Mr. Gordon shares his witty, perceptive analysis of newsworthy tax issues in his biweekly blog for Business Finance magazine’s website, and in frequent presentations as well. His speaking venues include the Chicago Tax Club, the Practising Law Institute, and the American Bar Association Tax Section. His articles have been published in many tax and business journals.

Mr. Gordon is an adjunct professor at Loyola University’s graduate school of business in Chicago. He is a leader in the American Bar Association‘s Tax Section, where he is an officer of its Corporate Tax Committee and previously chaired its Energy and Environmental Taxes Committee. He is also a member of the Chicago Bar Association’s Tax Section.

He received his bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law, where he served on the editorial board of the Northwestern University Law Review.
